Estee Lauder – Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

23 Jul

Product: Nordstrom Gift with Purchase, Estee Lauder
Price: Free with any $29.50 purchase from Estee Lauder

I received the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale catalogue in my mail one day, and was so excited to figure out what I wanted to get. I’m running low on my facial sunscreen (Lancome), and thought these “gifts with purchase” were a great way to score some bonuses with an everyday necessity. I’m not too picky when it comes to facial sunscreen so I was looking forward to trying some other brands.

Out of all the offers (you can browse them on the Nordstrom website, just click the image below), I was most interested in the Estee Lauder promotion, mainly for the lipstick color. It looked like a fun pink and I wanted to give it a try. (I bought Estee Lauder’s DayWear Plus in SPF 15, but haven’t used it to yet since I’m not finished with my other sunscreen)

Gift consists of:

  • Re-Nutriv Intensive Hydrating Creme Cleanser (0.5 oz.)
  • Re-Nutriv Intensive Lifting Creme (0.24 oz.)
  • More Than Mascara in Black (0.1 oz.)
  • Pure Color Gloss Stick in Frivolous Pink (0.16 oz.)
  • Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Candy
  • Trio compact of Signature Shimmer Powder in Rose Pearl, Signature Silky Powder Blush in Pink Kiss, and Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer

Overall, I think this is a pretty decent gift with purchase set. I would recommend it for people who are looking to just add some variety to their makeup collection. I haven’t tried any of the skincare samples, but will do a review once I do. The purple crocodile bag is pretty flimsy, and I’m not sure what exactly to do with mine. The mascara is very good at not clumping, but as a result applies more thinly. The lipgloss is very fun and sparkly, I would describe it as a baby pink color with lots of gold sparkles.

I was a little disappointed with the blush trio. The shimmer powder is pretty normal, but I’m not sure how frequently I’ll use it. The blush color is a nice flushed out pink, but not very pigmented. I had to dip my Sephora blush brush into it several times. I think the bronzer is my favorite out of the trio. It adds a nice subtle color and since it’s matte, the bronzer is pretty easy to contour with.

(Left to Right) Shimmer Powder in Rose Pearl, Silky Powder Blush in Pink Kiss, Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer

I was NOT disappointed, however, by the lipstick! It’s such a pretty color and is flattering on anyone of any age! My mom tried it on as well, and it made her look about 10 years younger. For me, I think it’s the perfect summer shade and adds a pop of pink to your lips. The color is not extremely neon, and smells like watermelons. As you can tell, the advertisement makes the lipstick color look a little milkier than it really is. I actually look too tan when I wear pastel lipstick colors, so I actually prefer a more pigmented lipstick like this. The formula is fairly moisturizing, and there’s I don’t find a need to wear chapstick underneath. The color is also definitely long lasting, and I don’t have to reapply until after meals.

Hope this helps with your beauty purchases! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends August 1st, so keep that in mind! I love gifts with purchase and they can be found at department stores everywhere. To help make sure you don’t get suckered into stores’ marketing ploys to make you spend more than you need to, only consider these promos when you’re running low on a necessity product like sunscreen, toner, etc. Sometimes it’s tempting to buy something just to get the free gift! Feel free to share any opinions on other brands that you picked up!

Laura Mercier Mini Lip Colour Palette

21 Jul

Product: Laura Mercier Mini Lip Colour Palette
Cost: $15 on Gilt Groupe, originally $39

I have never used or bought Laura Mercier products, but have been on the search for some new lipsticks lately. Most of my lip products consist of either lip gloss or chapstick. I am a big fan of online sample sale sites like Gilt Groupe* & Ruelala* and love that there are makeup sales on these sites as well. I’ve seen brands like Bare Escentuals, Philosophy, and Tarte for sale. During a Laura Mercier sale on Gilt Groupe, I decided to snag a pretty reasonably priced lip palette that had colors I thought I would like.

Left to Right: Cinnamon, Pink Champagne, Italian Summer, Fresh Brown

Shipping can sometimes take awhile with Gilt Groupe, so although I ordered this in mid-June, it came in mid-July! I was excited to receive it in the mail, and so far I’m liking all the colors. They even out the color of your lips while adding a bit of sheen to them. They aren’t dry either, and quite moisturizing. I really like the Pink Champagne color, since it lightens my lip color (I have really pigmented lips), but doesn’t make the color seem too overbearing. I can imagine myself using all these colors for work and at other more professional settings. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a more sophisticated and polished look. I think given the subtlety all 4 of these colors, each would look great on any skin color- so don’t kill yourself trying to pick a shade =)! This is my first lip palette and I’m pretty satisfied. If you’re like me, it’s really hard to go through an entire tube of lipstick, so I like being able to dip into 4 colors at once for an arguably cheaper price. The only con with lip palettes is that it takes longer to apply.

Since this was bought on a sample site, you can’t buy this palette through Laura Mercier anymore. The website has a limited edition palette that looks like it’s sold out. Nevertheless, three of these colors (Pink Champagne, Cinnamon, and Italian Summer) are part of their Creme Lip Colour line and Fresh Brown is part of their Shimmer line. You can also buy Laura Mercier products at Sephora orĀ  Amazon.com

Cinnamon– warm brown
Pink Champagne– cool rose pink
(now known as Sparkling Pink)
Italian Summer– warm soft brown
Fresh Brown– warm bronze brown

Body Shop Night Moisturizer (Aloe)

20 Jul

Product: Body Shop Soothing Night Moisturizer
Price: $20 for 1.7 oz. jar

During a recent trip to the mall, I decided to search for a new nighttime moisturizer. I feel like my face wash and toner leave my skin feeling clean, but also dry. I have never tried The Body Shop skincare products before, but am a huge fan of natural, green products, so I decided to give it a shot.

The Body Shop’s skincare section is actually divided into products based on your skin type. For Oily and Breakout-prone, there is a Tea Tree Oil line. For Dry, there is a Vitamin E line. For Combination, there is a Seaweed line, etc. I consider myself to have combination skin, but wasn’t that pleased with the smell of the seaweed night moisturizer. A little farther down the aisle, I chanced upon an Aloe line, which is made for people with sensitive skin. Although I don’t consider myself someone with sensitive skin, I strongly believe that Aloe is a skin helper. Afterall, whenever you get sunburnt, the mommy remedy is to put on Aloe Vera!

The verdict? I absolutely love it! The moisturizer smells very fresh (think cucumbers), and feels good on your skin! Even though it’s aimed at sensitive skin types, I don’t feel that the company skimped on the moisturizing effect. It left my skin feeling polished and smooth the next morning. Even immediately after application, your skin is not left with a sticky feeling like some other moisturizers do. I have dry skin aroundĀ  the side of my lips and near the front of my eyebrows. This moisturizer has effectively taken care of that problem. I’m also comforted by the presence of natural ingredients, not sure if anyone else out there is also a nature-based product junkie like me! Overall, highly recommended product!

TIP: Sign up for The Body Shop emails on their website. They have frequent promotions. I used a $5 off your purchase coupon for this buy. The coupon is unfortunately expired now, but they send new ones out quite often, so keep an eye out!
